SalsaFrenzy Frequenty Asked Questions

Here are questions often asked about SalsaFrenzy:

  1. What is SalsaFrenzy's mission?
    Our mission is to:
    1. provide a comprehensive and impartial resource for Boston's Salsa dancing scene.
    2. promote Salsa music and dance as an artistic and social activity in the greater Boston area.
    3. lobby for greater representation of Salsa music in local Latin clubs.
    4. encourage excellence in instruction, dancing, performing, and other aspects of the Salsa scene.

  2. What are the criteria for inclusion in the SalsaFrenzy Calendar?
SalsaFrenzy list events that cater to Salsa dancers. In other towns, "cater to" would mean playing 75% or more Salsa. In Boston at the present time, Salsa dancers have to put up with less. To the best of our abilities, we will report the relative amount of Salsa music you can expect at a particular event.

  3. What determines the order that events are listed in a given day?
Within a given day, the order is by the degree to which the event caters to Salsa dancers, typically by the percent of Salsa music they play. e.g. a place in Worcester known to play more than 50% Salsa will be listed before a place in downtown Boston that plays only 20% Salsa. We also give preference to dance performance, live music, and one-time/special events.

  4. Where does SalsaFrenzy get its information?
SalsaFrenzy relies exclusively on "public" information about events. This comes first and foremost from direct submissions by event organizers, then from newsletters, public mailing lists/forums, web sites, etc. SalsaFrenzy refrains from publishing "insider/advance information" such as we might learn from personal contacts, attendances at certain events, etc. This to keep our listings balanced and impartial. If you detect a lapse in coverage, the most likely reason is that the event organizer hasn't written to us about it. Please tell them to contact SalsaFrezny.

  5. How to best use SalsaFrenzy as an event organizer/promoter?
There are three areas on SalsaFrenzy that you can and should take advantage of to promote your Salsa music and dance events (they are all free):
    1. The SalsaFrenzy Forum: The forum is open to anyone as a dancer, instructor, event organizer, etc. as long as their posting is Salsa related. You can post directly to the forum: Please read and follow the Forum's Posting Guidelines.

    2. The SalsaFrenzy Calendar: The Calendar is a day-by-day listing of Salsa music and dance events and is updated quite frequently. While you can email us at the last minute, the more notice you give us, the longer exposure your event will get.

    3. The SalsaFrenzy Weekly Update (email): SalsaFrenzy sends out a once-a-week email update, which highlights some of the events listed in the Calendar. The email update may go out as early as Tuesday and as late as Thursday in a given week (i.e. it's not fixed). Your best bet is to send us information a week in advance.

You are encouraged to use SalsaFrenzy from a perspective of enlightened self interest: do what's best for you, but recognize that contributing to the community (e.g. spreading the word about SalsaFrenzy) also helps you in the long run.

  6. How to contact SalsaFrenzy?
You can contact SalsaFrenzy by either e-mail or Instant Messenger (IM). See our "contact" page for details.
